Safeguarding ecological functions across transport infrastructure

IENE 2012 International Conference

The conference shall:
- foster a greater understanding of landscape fragmentation and its impact on biodiversity caused by transport infrastructure;
- strengthen the dialogue between scientists and practitioners and help to execute the "No Net Loss" concept of the EU council;
- trigger international collaboration through adopting a final declaration on the willingness to work towards a joint European approach on ensuring ecological functions and processes in the landscape.

Special topics that will be addressed at the conference are:
- Green infrastructure - concepts and implications for the transport sector
- Single-species versus biodiversity approach in mitigation planning
- Best practice in mitigation - experiences from monitoring and evaluation studies
- Vision 2050 - the ecologically sustainable transport system
The limits in mitigation - when should nature overrule economy
- Public awareness and education - increasing the acceptance for biodiversity values
